&lt;p&gt;His research is focused on education for sustainable development, specifically the application of the &lt;a href="http://www.resalliance.org/"&gt;social-ecological resilience&lt;/a&gt; framework to formal education. He is also active in the &lt;a href="http://lehighcfc.org/"&gt;Caring for Cambodia / Lehigh University Partnership&lt;/a&gt;.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Mike holds a B.B.A. in economics and finance from &lt;a href="http://www.mckendree.edu"&gt;McKendree University&lt;/a&gt; and a M.S. in &lt;a href="http://www.uaf.edu/som/programs/msecon/"&gt;natural resource and applied economics&lt;/a&gt; from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks.  In December 2010, he completed a M.Ed. in &lt;a href="http://www.lehigh.edu/~ineduc/cie/med_global_educ_change.html"&gt;globalization and educational change&lt;/a&gt; at Lehigh University, along with a certificate in &lt;a href="http://www.lehigh.edu/~ineduc/cie/ide_cert.html"&gt;international education development&lt;/a&gt;. Mike has also taken postgraduate courses in curriculum design and natural resource management.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Before returning to grad school, Mike worked in &lt;a href="http://goo.gl/maps/JaR7"&gt;rural Alaska&lt;/a&gt; as a head teacher and secondary generalist, teaching math, science and social studies to students aged nine to twenty.  He is certified to teach social studies and environmental science (&lt;a href="http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2878391/certification.png"&gt;among other subjects&lt;/a&gt;) in Pennsylvania.
